History of Jaeger-LeCoultre watches

In 1833, the very first Jaeger-LeCoultre workshop was founded and opened on the borders of the Jura mountains by Antoine LeCoultre. The Swiss village and small community of Le Sentier remains the location where the company’s manufacturing facility operates to this day.

The exceptional history of Jaeger-LeCoultre stems from the early innovation and inventions in horology by its founders. In 1844, Antoine LeCoultre invented the Millionometre, refining the manufacture of individual watch parts. By 1866, with the help of Antoine LeCoultre’s son, all elements of their existing watchmaking process were brought under the same roof.

By 1903, Jaeger-LeCoultre watches had started to appear on the world stage in partnership with other brands. For the 15-year period that followed, all Jaeger movements were exclusive to the Cartier name. The most definitive patent for the brand was Edmond Jaeger’s acquisition of the Atmos clock from its inventor, licensing it to LeCoultre for France from 1936 onwards, forming the Jaeger-LeCoultre name by 1937.

Master

Drawing inspiration from the original Memovox Polaris, a Grande Maison icon released in 1968, the Polaris watch has the alarm at the core of its design. The purpose of this “voice of memory” function was to alert divers once it was time to return to the surface and replenish oxygen supplies.

Two slightly off-centre crowns and a domed, slightly thickened glass for improved readability have inspired the new collection, evoking resounding ties to a history of sporting excellence. Variations in the timeless, elegant designs of this collection can be seen in the Polaris Date and the Polaris Chrono Worldtime for impressive additional functionality.

Rendez-Vous

Born from one of the first Maisons to produce women’s watches, the Rendez-Vous Jaeger-LeCoultre watches epitomise elegant, confident femininity in design.

Interchangeable calfskin leather straps feed into the character of the Rendez-Vous Night & Day and, with a sapphire case-back like most models in the collection, the Jaeger-LeCoultre internal automatic movement can be admired by wearers and onlookers alike.
