Coloured Dials

As we move through 2023, brightly coloured dials are here to stay. Breaking the traditional moulds of watchmaking beyond black, white, and silver, brands are no longer afraid to push the boundaries.

From fuchsia pinks to earthy greens, Longines take a bold stance with the DolceVita, producing a full-coloured timepiece in vibrant green. By matching its dial to its leather strap, the timepiece is a new interpretation of the iconic model, featuring softened lines and a Longines signature medallion on the case back.

The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional has re-written sports watch design, pushing their limits when it comes to colour. Whilst its bold orange dial provides safety under the sea, it also brings an effortlessly modern take to the piece, enhanced by luminescent hands and hour markers.

Contrasting Colourways

Colour continues to play a significant part in watchmaking. Whilst many brands use colour for both practical and aesthetic reasons, some brands are now exploring contrasting colourways, particularly to stand out in a crowded market.

The Bremont Argonaut demonstrates this perfectly. As a military dive watch legibility remains key, and the contrast of its blue dial and orange minute hand ensures maximum visibility, even in the depths of the ocean. Combining two complementary colours allows the timepiece to deliver both style and safety.

Breitling’s Navitimer B01 more subtly opts for this design, contrasting its sky-blue dial with a trio of black sub-dials. This trend we have seen more frequently in the horological space, explored over the years by a wide range of watch brands, drawing inspiration from the famous 1950s Rolex model.
