Vicenzaoro is a key highlight on the jewellery calendar, and our buyers were not disappointed with the creativity and craftsmanship that was revealed this year by the industry.

Vicenzaoro’s 70th Anniversary surpassed all expectations with a record global attendance, over 1300 exhibitors, and visitors representing 141 countries. A platform for building relationships, sharing new innovations, and revealing new collections, Vicenzaoro brings together the most authoritative players in the gold and jewellery world, presenting a European business hub for the industry.

For our jewellery buyers here at Goldsmiths, Vicenzaoro is a hive of creativity that inspires our jewellery design and technology for the future, highlighting all important key trends. Goldsmiths’ jewellery buyers; Charlie Hough and Nisha Patel, share the inside scoop from Vicenzaoro and what you can expect to see over the coming year!

As a business, why do we attend Vicenzaoro?

The Vicenzaoro trade show presents a fantastic opportunity for us to see our suppliers, and their new products in person, as well as getting a feel for the latest trends coming through. We work with suppliers from all over the world, so this show facilitates an invaluable opportunity for us to understand the market and plan our product strategies for the upcoming new seasons.

It’s so inspiring to explore the jewellery halls and stands whilst we continue to build relationships and forge new connections with industry suppliers.

What excites you most about Vicenzaoro?

Without doubt, it’s the Jewellery! Jewellery is such a tactile product to work with. You need to feel it and try it on to truly see how beautiful a piece is. Sometimes we see products on images or trays, but it is only when you put a piece of jewellery on that it comes to life. We regularly speak to our suppliers about new products, but you can’t beat sitting down and looking at it in person. There are also companies at the show with high-end design led jewellery, so it is really exciting and inspiring to view these stunning pieces.

What jewellery trends did you see on the horizon?

Shaped stones are still a key trend with pear shaped stones proving to be an immensely popular shape. There were a lot of designers working with Pave, particularly in bangles and rings, which was really exciting to see. Coloured gemstones were everywhere, especially the classic precious stones such as sapphires, emeralds, and rubies. There’s also a lot of new and exciting gemstones coming through such as tourmalines with a focus on blue and green tones. Yellow gold remains strong and the introduction of new flush set diamonds with the warmth of the metal create an interesting new aesthetic.

Whilst we have seen engagement ring sales move at a slower pace than expected, the right-hand dress ring has increased in popularity. Diamond shaped stone eternity bands and stacking rings are prolific across jewellery collections, and the bypass two stone ring presents a stunning silhouette for a right-hand ring.

Did anyone surprise you in terms of trends or collections?

There were a lot of exciting trends coming through from the high-end designers reimagining classic jewellery techniques in new and inspiring ways, like pave and flush settings. We had expected to see these techniques being used but not as much as they were across multiple designers and brands. Coloured gemstones were also a big surprise. This trend has been coming through since the Vegas industry show last year, but as a trend it is still elevating.

What can our clients expect to see in our jewellery windows over the coming year?

There is definitely more to come from shaped stones, especially pear shapes. Expect more coloured gemstones in engagement rings as well as jewellery with a focus on blue and green tones. Yellow gold will remain popular and is being used more widely with diamond jewellery, as well as within classic styles like chains and hoops.

What was your key takeaway from Vicenzaoro?

Jewellery is amazing! There are many new and exciting trends coming through that we, as buyers, need to interpret and collaborate with our suppliers to create exciting new ranges for our business. I cannot wait to see how Goldsmiths adopts these trends and breathes new life into our ranges in our own unique way.

Having a strong product offering in our Autumn/Winter collections will be key to differentiating our brand from the market. With a focus on natural diamonds and the quality and craftmanship of our jewellery, we intend to really stand out as a luxury jewellery retailer.
